Thread: Subs wired to amp recommendations

I have two 10" 250w rms 4 ohm dual voice coil subs. Need opinions if I should run a mono amp wiring the subs in series, or run them on a two channel amp each sub to each channel. Is there any advantages in running them a certain way? More power? Better sounding? Also with each sub having a 100-250w rms what is the min. recommended wattage for each amp if I go eitherway? FYI i have not chosen what amp manu. to run yet.
Forgive me if these are stupid questions, just want to make sure all goes well.
    Thanks in advanced.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people that ask questions.
You need a mono sub amp that will run a minimum of 1-2 ohm mono load. Then wire you subs in parallel, not series, to present a 2 ohm load to the amp. Do not do this with a 2 channel amp. First, the load presented is different for stereo amps wired in mono. Second, stereo amps are normally class a/b. You want efficient as possible class d mono sub amp.
For those subs, I'd go with a 300-500w mono amp.
    Yeah What he said!!!

Shockwave, If you wired it this way on a 2 channel amp that is bridged would it be correct to assume the amp would be seeing a 1 ohm load?

Yes wired that way it would be a 1 ohm load and would require an amp that is rated at a 1 ohm load, typically a class D amp. To wire it to a 2 channel amp would require running the coils on each woofer in series, making each woofer an 8 ohm driver, then wire the subs in parallel. This will give you a 4 ohm load overall.
