The boat in question is a 87 4-Winds liborator with a 350 with a alfa drive. I'm looking to make a "C" shaped peice of 316 ss (1/4 thick)to put around my stringers to bolt my motor down to. The lag bolts that go into the wood and fiberglass don't hold well any more. Now for my question, can I raise the motor on the mounts that 1/4" in relation to the out drive housing.
Any serious suggestions on how get this heavy package from 55 mph to 60+.
    Thanks for any thoughts

I have a 21 Eliminator and just redid the transom and raised my motor 3", now the cavition plate is 3" above the bottom of the boat, and took off my 25" Mirage and run a 28" Bravo, gained 10 MPH, 81 MPH on GPS. Imco sells a shorty lower unit, I would try that first, and you can keep the lower unit when you sell the boat!!
