I was wondering what the value of a 80 hondo pickle fork with a boss 429 that has been out in the weather in wisconsin for a few years and does not turn over, I put a breaker bar on the motor and it is stuck. The gel coat is checked and faded. Any ideas what it is worth?

Motor is worth alot if truly a Boss 429 [is it a hemi-head? plugs in the center of the very wide valve covers?] I ask because I have looked at several so-called "Boss 429s" and they turned out to be iron wedge head 429-460s...They were told that it was a Boss by some so-called expert. The fact that its frozen will be a deterrent, parts are expensive, aluminum heads can be corroded beyond repair and expensive to replace. The up-side is that if its origional it will be a steel crank, 4 bolt main block, could have extra heavy-duty rods [1/2" rod bolts] Make the owner a cautious offer as its a big gamble.

I would buy the package just for the engine alone, but as 058 says take a good look at the heads. They look almost twice the size of the 429/460 and the plugs located at the top.Mustang guys give an arm/leg for these motors. An engine like that is worth 10-15 thousand Cdn in perfect shape here.If you get the package don't try to start it up ,even if you soaked it .Dismantle the engine and rebuild it.

It is a boss, plugs thru the valve covers screw in freeze plugs, alum heads. I am not really interested in the motor, I want the boat and not really interested in spending an arm and leg to fix this thing but they wont split it up. They are asking 6600.00 for it on a trailer.

Buy the whole thing, most of the purchase price can be recovered from the sale of motor alone if the weathering isn't too bad. A core Boss 429 should be worth 5 to 6K as is.
