Anyone a Dominator carb guru??? Here is the story... Boat idles like junk after sitting over the winter.. gas pouring down the throat..Wot is great though.
Decided to take the thing apart (#8896 1050cfm) and use the holley fast kit.
There was a lot of calcium looking stuff in the bottom of each bowl,, and other guk that i cleaned out with CLR and carb cleaner. New float valves, gaskets etc etc. The power valves were solid,,plug style for 3 way.
put it back together and the thing ran sweet the first time out. Idle was acceptable and wot was rocket right up to 6000plus.
A week later i get on the water again and after about an hour of running hard the thing starts surging,, runs up to 6000,,,falls off to 5k and surge up and loose power,,, surge up and loose power.. What up?? vac leak? Or???
This unit is on squids brothers old boat, 21 TPR with a 468 chev.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Sounds more like a fuel dilivery problem than a carb problem. Check you fuel pressure while it's acting up. Another thing. The white in the carburetor says that you have had water in it. There's a chance that you have picked up more water from your tanks. Run some Heet through it. Take the carb off and turn it upside down. Dump it on a piece of cardboard and look for water bubles when you do.
Mystery solved,, seems once again I tightened one of the see through sight plugs too tight,,, ran great one day and the next it broke off and let air into the bowl. Im glad its a simple fix!!!
