Putting together a Sanger drag hydro for lake fun. Has a 598 Chevy with 14-71 on gas. I think it makes about 1200? on pump. At what point do I need to run a greek coupler and upgrade from 1" to 1 1/8" prop shaft? Upgrading the shaft seems like a pain. I don't plan on running the boat over about 120.

I am in the process of doing that right now to my 80 Sanger drag hydro. I think a 1 1/8 is just cheap insurance. What's your life worth? Go ahead and get it over with.......and then you will be ready for alcohol.
A dumb question, but do you have a whirlaway?

And the prop is still sitting at the bottom of the lake.

do you need a new strut to upgrade the shaft? Can you just change the bushings?

Thanks for the great info. Any idea how to get a hold of Tom Bently? I searched this site and the web but no luck.
