If anyone is looking to build one of these for an old flatty or for a '50s T-bird, I just picked mine up from the engine builder. Thought I would post some info, it may help someone. Plus, the machine shop deserves the kudo's.
It is for a '57 Fairlane that we are restoring. It is off the frame right now. The frame is basically completed, powdercoated, and rolling. 4-wheel discs, rack and pinion steering, all top notch.
The body is on the rotisserie, and just got it's first coat of single-stage black to check the body work. We always spray a few coats of "mistake" paint on the cars to check the bodywork before final blocking. It usually brings a few problems to the surface.
Anyway, the Ford-O-Matic trans got rebuilt by a local guy that loves them. He has found all the weak points and problems and knows how to cure them.
The block needed two sleeves, as there was a crack between two middle cylinders. It took 6-pairs of heads to come up with two good ones - with material enough for porting. They got fully ported and polished, including chamber work. The valves are 2.02 / 1.60 Chevy.

The crank got offset-ground to become a "stroker". The engine came out to 346 cubes. We could only find one set of rods that would work with the pin size / rod length / bearing size. A $1500 set of Manleys. .

The cam is a custom Isky grind. We spec'd the cam for an EFI solid street motor. An outfit up north had aluminum roller rockers and also a "Blue Thunder" aluminum 4-bbl intake. A place called "Red's Headers" had some tubular shorties.

A Mallory UniLite distributor with Hyfire box and ProMaster coil lights the fires, and ultimately it will have a Holley 700 cfm Commander 950 throttle-body EFI unit.
The machine shop only had 600 and 830 Holleys, so we ran the 600 on the dyno. 38 degrees of timing brought 275hp near 5500 rpm. For all the work and money, we were all hoping for over 300, but it is a small cam and we are a full 1.5 points down on compression from stock (9:1 from 10.5). That is still 110hp or so OVER stock configuration!
Anyway, if anyone is interested, the motor can be duplicated - with more cam or whatever.
We ran it on the dyno

Was the Machine Shop Mummert Machine (MMAD). They specialize in Y-Blocks. I used to work there and I must have worked on 50 sets of y-block Hi performance heads at least. They're working on the only Y-Block aluminum head right now. Last time I checked they were building a 500hp naturally aspirated y-block which is kinda unheard of.

Nope. A local here in Bakersfield. He has had his machine shop for probably 4 decades. His specialty is actually 409s. He makes all kinds of things out of them, since standard BBC cranks go right into them.

Beer-30. I'm not raggin on your new motor or anything but I'm going to say beware of those rockers. If those are the same rollers that I'm thinking of what aluminum they're cast from breaks very easily, maybe keep a few stock ones in the trunk. Maybe their different though... It's still awesome seeing someone else interested in a Y-block!

Wow, what a neat piece. I haven't turned a wrench on a Y-Block in over 35 years. My last one was in a 56 Ford Victoria 2 door hardtop and owned several 57 Fords from a sedan delevery to a convertable to the usual 2 door hard tops and sedans. Your engine brings back some fond memorys of a simpler day and less cares and worrys. Be sure to post pics of the finished car or unfinished if you care to, I'd like to see in in any stage of completion.

    That sure looks nice.
Is the front timing cover and intake manifold just polished? or some sort of coating?

Sweet. Nice looking motor for a nice looking car. Makes me want to get to work on my '57 Ranchero. After I finish my current project...

Need Y-Block stuff or blue thunder stuff try this website. Honest guy.
And if you need cylinder head work Jeff Mummert over there is the best when it comes to high-flow porting for any form of cylinder head.
