A buddy dropped off his 1997 4.3 mercruiser boat.

Starts but runs only in start mode.
Power on purple wire from switch is ok to engine connector.
No power on purple wire at coil.
Jumper fixes it, but what is between harness connector and coil (all purple)?
Not a resistor on this new a system is there ????
Some safety system? From oil, temp, fuel sensor?
As you might guess I have no diagram and don't want to rip into it>
does his motor have oil pressure sensor to shut off fuel pump is installed above oil filter in all v-6&8 engines if motor has low oil pressure shuts fuel pump off unplug it install jump wire retest. not a un common problem
