Sanger Hydro, Get off of that hillbilly shit. Post a picture of your Hydro and let us be the Judge. And answer his challenge on the race. Smart ass people don't make it to far in racing Originally posted by 76 sanger hydro:

We run mostly at Alum Creek...it is unlimited for speed and HP. the only way to get "run off" an unlimited waterway, would be for noise...which they seem pretty lax on.

What's the DB level, when that barbeque is wound up ? Any prob with the local authority? I remember reading about Howard Arneson's boat,he's having an auxilary engine to putt putt out from SF harbour, before he fires up the turbine, because of the sound level!

"Hillbilly"? I think not..."radical" would be a better choice of words.
As for exceeding the abilities of the vessel...well...its like stuffing a alcohol blown hemi into a Ford Pinto. Was the Pinto designed for 180 mph or 2000 hp?...of course not. But can someone with the appropriate knowledge and skill make it happen, and do so safely...of course.
We have been engineering and building hi-perf boats for years, and have extensive knowledge about turbines...do you think you have what it takes to put a project like this together? And to make it work *correctly* and safe?
We know what we are doing...do you? I wonder if you even built your own boat from scratch.
As my Father often says..."I have already forgotten, what you will never know". http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
    Happy Hot-Boating all.

Dont know the actual level, but it *loud*! We wear helicopter noise-cancelling Clark headsets while at speed. We *can* talk/hear at idle, but its a job.
Ohio just passed the noise law last year, so we are playing dumb. Been out 6 times, with no hassle.
Methinks the water-cops are more interested in getting the late evening yahoos, who got their boats from Daddy, and have no real water experience. That includes the hopped-up jet-skis too...some of those can be *real* loud with after-market pipes.
We tend to stay by ourselves, and run straight shots when spooling her up.
    Take care.

I talk with 1or2 guys a year that say they are trying to do that. You guys have DONE IT, I admire that.
If you feel that all your angles are working right for it now, I would sure love to build you a super neat and strong V-DRIVE for it!! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif Tom Bentley (530-885-0531) PS, I also like that Rogers hull. Where are they located now days?
The jet runs at about 22k rpm WFO. It goes thru a 3:1 reduction on the output shaft. It then feeds the 1:.83 v-drive...this gives us about 6k at the screw.
After many gear/prop changes, we settled on the current 3-blade 29x24 screw. I have had about 6 different screws on her...and yes...some rides were scarier than others. The other hassle was beaching her...taking off the screw underwater...walking to the locked truck 300' away...while carrying 30-40# of bronze alloy...reverse procedure to install... http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
The 1500hp rated top-loader is working fine for now...Ill give ya a call if we break something.
Rogers is still in California, but being run by his son. Our first hot-boat was an 1969 18' Rogers. We stuffed a 6-71 blown Chrysler Hi-Power hemi in that one, but it was...shall I dare say here...a Berkley Pump that propelled her. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
    Take care.
