My building is two away from the shitty little "strip mall industrial buildings" where this happened yesterday and is still going on today...
VAN NUYS, Calif. - Firefighters set a fire inside an industrial building in Van Nuys on Wednesday morning in order to destroy about 50 pounds of dynamite that was determined to be too unstable to remove any other way. Images The operation led authorities to shut down the San Diego (405) Freeway in both directions between Roscoe Boulevard and Sherman Way, starting shortly after 6 a.m. All lanes were reopened about an hour later.
Metrolink's Ventura line, which begins in Montalvo in Ventura County and ends at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, was also closed but was reopened at about 7 a.m.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the dynamite -- approximately 70 sticks found in an industrial building in the 7900 block of Haskell Avenue -- was not part of any terrorist operation.
After determining that the dynamite had degraded and was too unstable to be removed, officials decided to set a controlled fire inside the building to destroy the explosive material.
Several protective measures were taken, in addition to the freeway closure and the suspension of Metrolink service. These included:
Around 50 people were evacuated from the area.
Perimeter material was erected around the building to protect neighboring structures.
Neighboring buildings in the area were sprayed with a material intended to protect them from the fire.
Holes were cut in the roof and sides of the building so that the fire would go straight up in the air rather than spread horizontally.
Power to a 3-block area was shut down by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Before the fire was set, diesel fuel was injected into the building in what fire officials described as an effort to neutralize the dynamite.
"The situation is that the dynamite is not stable," Routoli said.
Police were sent to the building at 2:46 p.m. Tuesday as part of an "explosives investigation," said Officer Grace Brady of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations unit.
When officers arrived, they found two men in front of a building. A man in his 20s was immediately taken into custody while the other man, who is in his 40s, ran inside, said LAPD Officer Mike Lopez.
The man barricaded himself for nearly six hours before surrendering at about 8:30 p.m., Lopez said.
A bomb squad searched the building and discovered more than 50 sticks of dynamite, Lopez said. He said police also found possible stolen merchandise. Wednesday morning, police told NBC4 there may have been evidence of methamphetamine production, as well.
The two suspects in custody have yet to be interviewed by investigators, Tiano said early this morning. Their names were not immediately released. The sequence of events leading to Wednesday's controlled burn began at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, when police responded to a report of a suspicious package inside a freezer in an apartment in the 5100 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue, near Magnolia Boulevard, in the Valley Village section of the San Fernando Valley, Lopez said.
A bomb squad was called and found a stick of dynamite inside the package, Lopez said.
The man who lived in the apartment said the dynamite was left by a man who moved out two weeks ago and is now in custody, Lopez said.
The man in custody told police he had procured the dynamite from the location on Haskell Avenue, which prompted the explosives investigation.
