That is a nice bike. I was thinking of buying a new one but this looks like a good deal. Plus for as much as I'll ride it it would probably be better than buying new. How long do these motors last compared to a 2 stroke before they need rebuilding?

Thanks. I think like any motor, it all depends on how you run and maintain them. I can say this bike has spent more of it's engine life running at the bottom to mid RPM range. I'm a recreational rider, so it hasn't had the harsh track abuse that allot of them see. Since I installed the Kibblewhite valves and spring kit, it's ran near flawless and starts allot easier then it did stock. Like I said above I've used nothing but synthetic 10-40 Honda engine oil and Honda syn trans fluid. I just changed the plug before this last trip and the old one showed it was jetted as near perfect as you can get it. I have absolute confidence in the engine. So much that I plan on continuing to ride it till it sells.

Its sounds like its in pretty good shape. What are the motor differences between this one and the new ones? Besides the add ons that you have done. I haven't ridden in years but I want to get back into it. Mostly use it for riding at the river. Probably never see the sand. I was looking at the new WR450. The one with the lights and stuff. I really don't need a super trick race type bike but this is more like the price range I'd like to spend.

I'm not completely sure of all the different changes made to this motor since. How ever I know there have been quite a few changes to the overall bike since 2002. Of course that is usually the case. Each year they tend to get better and better. I have my bike setup better for a "taller" rider. I'm 6'1" and before I put on the bars, bar mounts and lower pegs, I felt pretty cramped on it. They have changed some of the ergos on the new ones, so they are not as cramped feeling. The new 06 Yamaha 450's are really nice. I was just reading up on them the other day. Baja Designs makes an enduro kit for most bikes, which would give you the front and rear lights.

I think the 06 has a little more horsepower. The bike for sale here has plenty of horsepower.
I rode the 06 a couple weeks ago. I was amazed at how easily the CRFs start compared to the Yamaha. I barely pushed down on the kickstart and the thing was running. In fact, I think it was more effort to start the PW50.
The CRF450 feels amazingly light and agile. I was worried that it would feel like some of the old strokers, like a tank. No way. 4th gear, cruising, give it a turn of the throttle and hold on. Corners easily too.
