I am a bit past the 40 milestone and went digging through some old magazines and in the summer 1965 issue of Hot Boat found a blown hydro called El Tigre II that ran a twin prop W-drive type system. The boat was owned by Tom Weeda. These systems were seemingly ahead of their time because improvements in hull design, running gear and handling tweaks let the single prop systems continue to work very well. With the power levels being produced in todays top classes this W-drive seems to be an effective way to put serious power to the water with greatly increased consistancy and safety.
