There were other issues with the Duffy, like paint and stereo. Now that those are out of the way, the insignificant stuff, like a trailer to get it to Cali, are coming into play.
So you're half way there with the Duffy!
A CA dealer must collect sales tax unless they perosnally deliver it out ot state or have an ICC common carrier pick it up at the dealership and deliver it out of state. The dealer keeps the bill of laden if the board of eq audits them they will need that receipt.
