What heat range sparkplugs with a Vertex Magneto? I prefer Autolite.

Are you useing an engine with that? There is a lot more too your engine that will dictate what plug you need... Run what you have been useing and check the plug color. That will tell you more than we can.

The heat range of the plug should remain the same as a stock battery ignition but because the magneto has such a weak spark you need to gap the plugs much tighter. Try gapping them at .025 inches.

    Interesting subject Heat Range
Most people do not know the heat range is the operating temp of the spark plug. Has nothing to do with the spark. The intensity of the spark is determined by the device making the spark and the gap. The wider the gap the more energy needs built up to jump the gap. Mags have a hard time jumping a wide gap at low RPM's (except MSD Mags). I would not gap the Vertex wider than .018"
The correct heat range plug is hot enough to repel combustion deposits and cold enough to not cause pre ignition. The design of the center insulator determines the heat range. A hot plug will have a longer distance for the heat to travel before it is dissipated into the cylinder head. A cold plug is just the opposite.
High compression, blown, nitrous engines need a colder plug because their combustion temps are higher.
