Was planning a trip to Shasta mid-Aug., and little sis says the water level is way down on Shasta. Suggesting Tinity instead. Anyone know if Shasta is way down, and what do you think of Trinity for RV-ing, skiing and wakeboarding? Going Weds. to Sun. Thanks.

Its down 72' right now and going down nearly a foot a day. I've been down there with it really really low and its not terribly bad, just gotta watch out for stuff that hasn't seen daylight for quite some time.

by mid August both lakes will be way down and some launch ramps will be closed. Go to Oroville if you are coming to Nor Cal.

We went to Trinity a couple of years ago, towed the boat with the RV. Awesome vacation, stayed at an RV park on the north end that had slips named Wyntoon, so we just put in on the first day and took it out on the last day. The RV park had a truck you could borrow to put in and out. Fishing was awesome, climate was awesome, and the "busy" 4th of July holiday was not as busy as Havasu during the week. (Everything's relative)
The salmon should be running, too, so you can fish on three lakes and get a guide for the river.
Skiers and wakeboarders had lots of room, and there was no chop, relative to Havasu's afternoons. Plan to cook, although there is a small burger stand on the property.

I prefer Trinity over Shasta. Prettier and less crowded.

Thanks everyone for the info. Looks like we may be headed to Trinity. I've been looking forward to this trip for months now, and just hope the water level stays decent on that lake.
My Sis was talking to one of the camp grounds at Shasta and said they were told that the level is being intentionally lowered so as to do some work on one of the bridges. Apparently, the lake was designed to be res., so the agency isn't giving much attention to the lost revenues the will result from the campgrounds, marinas, etc. That is all rumor, though, so who knows. If that's true, this is stupid timing on their part.

    Hi Guys:
Just got back from Shasta a 2 weeks ago.....the water is down but doesnt put a damper on the lake. Been going there for 20 years....its still beautiful and you can get to all the necessary places (like bridge bay to eat!)
    Have a wonderful vacation.

Even at 100ft down Shasta will be fine. If you want to go to a lake that the water stays the same all year head to Whiskeytown, great lake and the water will be just a little cooler. Trinity is nice but the grade and roads to it are not that fun to drive.
