I am hoping some one out there can shed some light on this problem. The last time out in my deck boat with a 175 merc ob, I could not get it to trim up. I would take off and try to trim it up and it would barely move and not go any higher. I tried stopping and triming it up at idle and it would go up, but as soon as I applied power to it would slam back down. After getting it out of the water I would raise it up and it would go up no problem, I would try to apply weight to see if it would go down, but would not go down. I have been told maybe seals but I don't know, why wouldn't it fail even with weight applied to it if was seals. Does anyone ideas as to what is going on with this trim unit?

Is there fluid running out of the lines/hoses/pump/trim ram anywhere? Is there fluid in the resevoir? Is the bypass open or closed (this is the small screw piece in between the two hoses on the pump...make sure it's turned all the way in clockwise)?
Snady?????!!! lololol
Its Sandy.
Hey Brian, you know what the first sign of taking too much Viagra is? Dislexia.
Is it around an 86-88 model? The Laser has an 86 on it, and Merc. had gone with a saftey feature, that would stop the motor from raising up any higher than a (factory) setting... At idle, it will raise as high as you want it to go, but give it some gas, and WHAM O, down it'll come...
I know little of the mechanics of it, only replaced the pump, but that might give you some kind of idea.
