Thread: The difference between "Bird and "Bug" Catcher Injectors

    Can someone post some pics of a bug catcher and bird catcher injectors on top of an 8-71 blower or larger. I am thinking about putting a bug catcher on my K-boat because I've been told that it will be easier to drive but that "you're going to hate how small it looks" or "don't be a pussy, put the bird catcher on there like everyone else". I just don't like the look of the 4 port hilborn injectors, so they're not an option for me. Any thoughts??

    A Bird Catcher has Smoother transition from Idle to full throttle. Witch makers it easy to drive and tune at lower RPM’s ( See Below) Here is some picture of my Bug Catcher on a 871

    In diagram A, below the machine surface on a Bird Catcher extends deeper into the hat.

    In diagram B on the Bug Catcher the surface drops off in to the casting, so as soon as the top side off the bug catchers butterflies get to that point it will flow more air then the Bird Catcher. This makes for a quicker transition from low RPM's to to higher RPM's, and it also gives you less resolution in the throttle at lower RPM's.

    What I can't figure out is:
    My Bird and all that I have ever seen....tip the butterflys out at the bottom to open.
    Then I see this drawing.
    So..then I go to this site and look at a bug. http://www.goodvibesracing.com/Produ...ns/E-4005F.jpg
    That's the bug I remember and the butterflys work the same way..tip out at the bottom to open...or so it looks as I cannot see the barrell valve linkage.
    Then I look at your deal and the injector looks different (besides the 3 ribs removed) and I see your throttle cable positon and it looks like the bottom of the throttle blades tip inward....the opposite of the birdcatcher.
    Is that right?

    It sounds like you are saying that the bug catchers would be even less controllable from lower to higher rpms. Can this be right??

    How many companies have manufactured Bird and Bug catchers?
    Out of those companies, how many revisions have each company had on the Birds and Bugs?

    Only Enderle. His invention. Bug was first, then the Bird in later years, then the Buzzard.

    Flat48 you are right my diragram was wrong so I fix it with some pictures. It's easyer to see and I should of done it this way first GOOD EYE!!
