No these motors are off a customers 28 Skater. He just got a pair of 300 Pro Maxs. The Daytonas still in one piece.

Wish those motors were around when I was repowering my 24 Skater.I thought my deal was good(1997 225 Promax's)at 11k for both. Some body better jump now,cuz they won't last.

Hey SkaterFast and Boatmaster. Quick question for you guys related to my other thread here in the O/B forum.........how trouble free are the EFI 2.5 280 and 225 Pro Max motors. I am mainly talking about starting.....when cold, when hot, all the time. Are they easy starting motors? Do they fire every time? Thanks.

You will get more trouble free hours out of the pro maxs, Mainly because of the lower RPM range.
The new style 280EFIs are very user friendly due to being all computer controled. start up is great and there is a stumble switch on the shift.
All comes down to how fast you want to go?? Hope this helps.

However, reliabliity (easily starting every time) is more important. If the only difference is longevity due to lower rpm band for the pro max, then I would go 280 all the way. However, if the 280 motors are tougher to start and in general more tempermental, I would go pro max.
Just for clarification, it sounds like the 280 starts just as easy as the pro max?

Yes the 280 is very user friendly on cold and warm start. Idle is very smooth. For that fact as long as you have a newer 2.5 with a digital ECU the start up is no problem. Twin 97 2.5s on my daytona and it run fine.

The 225 Promax is fool proof. If you have water in the fuel system the buzzer will go off.If there is no oil going through the fuel system it will go off.If the temp goes up the buzzer will go off. When I was in Havasu last weekend I hadn't been there for 5 weeks. So the boat sitting for 5 weeks,I turned the keys over they fired right up with out pumping the ball or priming.I would have no problem holding the throttle wide open for the 13 minutes it would take me to get to the damm from the bridge or even for 30 minutes. My opinion is to go with the 280HP.I had a 1997 260HP on a Stoker and put well over 125 hours on it with out touching either.
