if we change up the engine ( upgrade) IN OUR BOAT
like say 2 years from now...
will my hours go to zero?
    how does that work?
or does the time, reflect something else?

You could put a new hour meter in and nobody would know the hours. If you have a Merc. motor, the computer tracks the hours no matter what your hour meter says, you need a scan tool to read them. I have the same motor that my boat was purchased with so the hours it reflects are the actual hours of use. You can't erase the computers log. Once you change from the original motor, all bets are off. You would still have a boat made in what ever year, with brand new power. That's still appealing to people. The condition of your boat, will show how you've cared for it or how hard you were on it.

Alot of channel sitting, so easy to do.
Just hit 86 hours, exactly 3 years old.
    About 30 hours a year.

    25 mph = 4 hours
    50 mph = 2 hours
    100 mph = 1 hour

    who came up with this?
    is it accurate?

Hours is not a good indicator of condition. You could have one hour on the boat with a clogged cooling water intake overheat the engine and take the life right out of it.
We launched last night around 5PM and put another hour on the meter.
