will my hours go to zero?

You could put a new hour meter in and nobody would know the hours. If you have a Merc. motor, the computer tracks the hours no matter what your hour meter says, you need a scan tool to read them. I have the same motor that my boat was purchased with so the hours it reflects are the actual hours of use. You can't erase the computers log. Once you change from the original motor, all bets are off. You would still have a boat made in what ever year, with brand new power. That's still appealing to people. The condition of your boat, will show how you've cared for it or how hard you were on it.
