Thread: Transom Adapter Seal

    what is a good silicone to seal the transom adapter....i got 3m 5200...is this too strong? what does everybody use?

    get some "boat life"from rex. The 5200 does not belong on a boat. It is hell to get off and causes damage when you finally do get it off. Just my experience...

    I have read here that the 3M 5200 is a great sealant, but is better suited for a permanent application, not something you may have to take apart in the future.
    I used this on mine damn near 3 years ago & its holding up great, no leaks. And I've had the transom adapter off twice in those 3 years with no issues....

    3M 4200 is better too use. I use it on one side of the gasket and sealing grease on the transum side this way it is easy to remove. I also use inserrts on the bottom two hole instead of wood screws, much better seal.

    A light film of grease works very well, but if you feel the need to silcone it don't use 5200.
