I have used tin snips before. There is a tool you can buy for cutting filters open, it works like a tubing cutter.
How are you guys cutting apart your oil filters for inspection ? Is there a tool I can buy ? I want to keep an eye on what's being deposited in them.

goodson supply sells a tool has a cutting wheel, crank it to the filter and spin it.cuts like butter
You can use needle nose pliars. Just poke a hole and twirl a strip with the pliars, like a sardine can.

The tool is much better though.
TIP, cut it as close to the top as possible, then lift the element out with the threaded part. Much cleaner and you have a "can" to set it back in.
Get rid of that filter and put on a System 1. Screens 100% of the oil, remove, disassemble, inspect, clean, reassemble, go boating. Repeat process as often as you feel necessary. Money well spent!

Yes it is, We've run them for years. I think Jegs sells them they make tall and short ones. Just pull it off when you get off the water inspect and put back on.
