I am runnin 9.8. My old boat was 10.3 with Iron heads, I would say that was pushing it.
i was told that 11-1 comp is too much for jet boats on pump gas it would detonate....any suggestions

With iron heads, IMO it IS too much. Borderline, on the edge. Run premium and nothing less. 91 octane. Higher if you can get it. Top your timing off at 34 degrees or so also perhaps.
If you are running aluminums, you have a bit of breathing room. Still, stay with 91 octane premium minimum.
And DON'T PUT IN A 170* THERMOSTAT KIT! Run it on the cool side. 130-140 WFO.

you can do it, just run super all the time and no more than 32 degrees total timing bump it up to 36 on race fuel:devil:
