Ignition switch may be flaking out, take the PD off the ignition side of the switch, move to the hot side of the switch (battery) and see what happens.
I've got a friend that has a 1983 20ft Baja with BBC and Berkley 12JE and hydo-Place Diverter. He says that when he uses the trim, the engine acts like it has a rev limiter, only when he hits the switch. Problem started all of a sudden. He says there aren't any loose connections. Any suggestion?

If it has an MSD and he has any wires running next to the MSD wires it could be picking up interfearance from it
Is it possible that the addition of a Banderlog diverter relay would remedy this? Hooking up the Bennett pump to the battery, eliminating power from the ignition?
Banderlog relays work nice, speeds up the up/down times too! Try removing the PD power source off the switch you will have your answer.

most definitely! After putting the diverter relay on my boat you could see the diverter going up and down much faster due to less load on the system.
Super easy plug and play!
