Yep.
Several times.
For about 5 years, I ran the Field Training Officer Program at the cop-shop.
Several trainees, well; they didn't make it.
Seeing adults cry when you tell them they are not going to make it, isn't fun.
Some of them told me I was, "stealing their dreams".
My response always was, "I'm sorry, but losing your dream is better than me having to tell your husband/wife that you are dead."
Strangley enough, the women alway handled it better than the men.

I made a guy in college cry...he thought the Beatles were the best thing ever...I told him they were a lucky bar band with bad haircuts. The he got mad and started sputtering, so I told him Buddy Richs dying words as he was going into the emergency room with his last heart attack...
Reporter..."Mr. Rich, do you have any comment on the shooting of John Lennon?". Buddy..."one down, three to go..."
The guy came unglued and was swinging at me (and crying), but I just put my hand on his chest and kept laughing
