It's all about the rpm range you run, keep it under 7,500, she will run forever.
I always run AV gas or at least half AV and half 92 octane.
40 : 1 gas/oil mix will give you lots of life, if your a little unsure, always side on the rich side. (too much is WAY better than too little oil)

i hear they are excellent motors. i am an omc man myself but if i was to run a merc it wouls either be a 2.5 or a 2.4 bridgeport

I would run a 32:1 ratio if it is on a boat that is going to see a fair amount of hot rodding around (ie: running hard). Run a good synthetic oil (I like Klotz KL-333 or Mercury Synthetic). Snapper says Amsoil is good, whatever your choice, run a synthetic at 32:1 and keep it at no more than 7500 - 7700 Rpm. Good Luck http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

I had over 300 hours on mine before I sold the boat. For opil ratios run what the book says,I think it's 32:1?And like the other guys say mix 1/2 av and super unleaded.A lot of outboards fail due to bad fuel. Also stick with the high performance Merc oil.I talked to one of the guys at lake X about 4 years ago and he said they have never had a motor fail due to oil.So I bought a barrel of it.
