I want to put a kill switch in my outboard boat.It is a older 2 stroke Mercury 140 hp.I tried to hook it into the ignition switch but it kept on running.CP Preformance said the switch was for a magnito. We are tring to use this boat on Ripleys believe it or not in 1 week.

The kill wire should be black with a yellow strips, just go down and buy an omc kill swotch and hook it is. i know it is a mercury but an omc switch will work and they are very good!

The switch should close the circuit when the lanyard is removed. Some kill switches have dual circuits, so check it with an ohm meter. Connect a jumper wire from the black wire with yellow stripe (On back of ign. switch)to your one post on the kill switch, and the other post to ground. That is how you kill a MAG.

    sorry dog
Merc 140? Are you talking about an inline 6?
To kill the ones with a dist. you just break the circuit that powers the switchbox.
