    can you remove the starter without removing the aluminum housing on the back of the motor< Hardin marine 454 w/ logs berk jet.

    Are you serious? its on the bottom left of the motor.

    the reason he asks is that some starters are mounted on the bellhousing in the back. You could actually have two starters mounted on one engine with the right bellhousing! I plan on having two starters just for backup. The water is cold here and the wind blows faster than I can paddle.

    Can you get the starter out by removing the exhaust log on that side?

    if you can get to the 2 bolts underneath then yes if you cant then you might have to pull whatever is in the way but the belhousing shouldnt have anything to do with it.
