What is a safe ratio to run on my 97 2.5EFI260. The manual says 32:1 but some people are telling me to run 50:1 otherwise I will not get full performance. Any info would be appreciated.

What ratio to use depends on the oil.
What type of oil are you using?

Then it's a matter of how hard you run it.
Very few problems come from running a little rich, almost none!
On the other side, running lean can eat your engine! Lean toward the rich side if in doubt! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif

A handful of fouled plugs and the possibility of excessive carbon build-up (over a period of time) far outweighs the nastiness brought on by a lean condition, ie: piston seizure, burned piston, frozen or broken rings, scored cylinders, etc. As HB said, if in doubt, lean to the rich side! (excuse the pun) Especially in a high heat climate!

The Merc Perf. series 2.5 EFI
Puts out 262 HP with the recomended
    oil ratio: 32:1
So I would certanly use this mixture..
    Dont go any leaner !
The 50:1 confusion is for stock
    Mercs.

Run 32:1 and your motor will last. Remember these are High Performance motors with tighter tolerences and more friction.

What is everybody's feelings on running Amsoil 100:1 at a mix of 75:1? I've always run my motors this way, but I just want to be sure I am doing the right thing for my motor.

it depends on what you want 32:1 is better for the motor but 50:1 is designed for more rpms in order to change oil ratios i would recomend ptting an air box on the front of the motor
