From my experience it is normal. The oil doesnt burn off at idle speeds. Also you can try idling with the engine trimmed up a little so there is less back pressure for the exhaust to push through. Helps with mine.
I have a 2000 150hp saltwater EFI. I use Amsoil injector oil. I use the boat on the mississippi river up North, when I get to a lock & dam I shut the motor off when in the lock, and when I start it back up it smokes alot. Seems to be ok at crusing speed. It only seems to smoke when I start it back up.Is this normal or should I have it checked out? Thanks for any info.

Hey Guy: If you can try av gas - does'nt smoke.
Try it you will like it, does not really matter which oil
Smoke is good! (Beats the alternative)
Some oils just smoke more than others. I use 100% synthetic from Penzoil and it smokes like I'm on fire! But the inside of motor stays clean!
My two cents!
