Thread: Exhaust Manifolds

I am working on a project boat that will be closed engine and will have BBC power. I have new 4"x10" stainless tips and a good set of polished log manifolds that I was planning to use but would like to find better flowing exhaust manifolds. Can't afford what I really want but I can get a super good deal on a complete set of Kodiak high performance manifolds with 4" risers. They are like the Imco or Stainless Marine performance manifolds. Do you think they would do way better than the Glenwood logs?
    Thanks for looking!

From what I've heard, they do flow better. Not sure how much better...I like the look of logs when their polished up too. I just have Indmar logs on mine and I'm not lacking any power...

IMO thewy should be better than logs, but not up to tube headers.
    Lightnings are $1900 a set (I know, that's quite a bite).
I picked up 50HP from Logs and 2 7/16" outlets to Lightnings and 4"ers.

4trax.....you mean now, you like them You hated them prior to this season, cause the gaskets burned out every season.

That was before he got some good advice on how to fix the problem.

OK 4Trax I'm all EARS what's the trick? Please tell me what I need to know about burning up gaskets. Are they taller than the air cleaner or does it just look that way?
    PS- Your moter looks sweet!

If you already have the kodiaks then obviously this wont apply to you, but for anyone else interested in a new set of manifolds be patient and start looking now. I recently found a set of Imco Powerflows for $750 that were in really good condition. I think they retail for 2200 new so what I paid was a really good price.
From my research the Indmar aluminums are some of the best aluminum exhaust manifolds. A definite improvement over the logs. The real improvement should be shown by seat of the pants and or the tachometer.
Note: I think that the manifolds with the tubular stainless jacketed risers (EMI's, Gil, Dana or Imco's) are more like headers than manifolds.

I got them for $600 and they are new take off's. Think that was a heck of a deal.

Coud you dig up a pic that shows the lower half of the exhaust system? I would like to see the exhaust routing from the manifold riser to the tips on the transom. Do they stick up higher than your air cleaner? I hope they clear my engine hatch that I have worked on for so long.
Thanks for all the help gang!!
