Are you getting any kind of noticeable heat out of them, or is it more for aesthetics? I know that there is definate heat coming from the flame, but do the rocks (glass) give off a radiant heat too?

My buddy Dave builds theses... We used to build them together for extra cash together while in college.
I cant find any fire pits that we built on my computer...But heres a few Islands and Fire places we did at way less cost to the customer company we worked for.
Our build time was usually a week..I think he's still getting them out that quick. Free Delivery too...I think.
Let me know If you would like his contact info.
The one that Madelon posted above is something Im gonna just do myself for the river house.

Once the glass gets hot there is pretty good heat coming off of the pit.I had the gas company put a bigger gas main in but imo opinon it could use more juice.Plus i think i got my ring a little to deep but dont want to mess with it because there is little lava rock below the colored rock and it gets mixed up and looks like shiit.

I was looking at building one as well...but I was going to use real wood not gas. Because of that It has been hard to find actual firebrick. I have talked to Home Depot and Lowes with no luck...anyone know where to get firebrick in so cal? (Rancho cucamonga area)

You can do it your self. I just finished this for a client, BBQ, Firepit and a couple of fire bowls next to the pool.
