    We had a rookie right out of the academy make his first arrest. He kind of took his training a little too seriously. As he had the guy up against the car, he did a thorough search, just as he was taught. Start at the feet/ankles, work up the legs, waist, sides, front, back, arms, etc.
    The only problem was that the guy was barefoot and only wearing shorts.

    Alan, why would you start at the feet/ankles when a weapon is most likely kept in the waistband or pocket? Just curious as we train different here.:idea:

    That cop is a prime example of being complacent and using poor tactics. He exercised absolutely NO control over the subject. If he wanted to fight or run, he would have had the upper hand on that cop. Hope he doesn't have a wife or kids that are counting on him coming home every day becuse tactics like that will get you killed.

    The starting point is IMO, less important than being thorough. IMO, starting in the middle offers more opportunity to miss something.
    Air Force Security trains to start from the head, then 1/4's the body, upper left front/back, upper right front/back, waistline/belt/groin (pretty much from belly button to spine), then each leg separately, and nobody is searched without being cuffed, and prone is highly advised, kneeling next, never standing,
    One incident happened that 3 of our cops failed to be thorough in the "mid-body" area, and the 4th person who searched the perp, just before un-cuffing him in a cell, found a deringer, Kiestered.
