It's time to install mufflers on my boat. Approx 525 horsepower BBC. I can run 80 now and would like to be able to run 80 after the mufflers. What do you think about clamp on versus permanent tips? Also any reccomendations on Gibson, Dana, Rex or any others. What effect have mufflers had on your boats performance? Thanks.

SteveB:
You will not take them on and off once you install a set. Even if you did you would constantly be changing the back pressure and retuning your motor for performance.
Gatlin's are great top of the line but more for high horsepower applications ie...700 plus HP. Gibson makes a great muffler that is reasonably priced and located in Corona if you boat in Havasu or Calif boater.
There have been several reviews on this subject in terms of loss of HP when installed. The consensus was you lose about 1.5 to 3 MPH depending on motor and muffler choosen.
Hope this is helpful.

Gibson! I know a guy that has a set for sell if you're interested.
I have Gibson's clamp on type...Work well for the noise with a minumal power loss 1-2 mph is about right....

Yep.
Gibsons work no power loss
I did not see any loss with the Gibson's.
I ordered the Gibson transom mounts today. I'll report back next week on speed and power loss. Thanks all.
