It's not silicone, it's an epoxy putty. It's called "Seagoing".

I use a 3M clear silicone to "bed" the loader on my Schiada. I drilled the 1/4-20 mounting holes out, drilled for 5/16 and set SS thread inserts into the suction piece. Drilled through the suction piece to be able to add nuts and washers to the bolts. I did drill right through my oil pan on the first one! What a lesson.

Are you speaking about the intake grate or intake itself?
Usually, when people speak of the "grate", they are speaking about the loader which bolts into the location where the rock grate was.
If you are speaking about the intake that bolts inbetween the pump's suction piece & hull, it is installed into the hull installed with epoxy.
A little clairfication of which piece you are asking about would help.

Actually he is talking about the intake itself. Notice he said "between the grate and the FIBERGLASS". A loader does not contact the fiberglass in any way shape or form, but the intake does, which means he's speaking of the intake.

On an E or F Series pump, the grate DOES go up against the fiberglass.
DO NOT use Sea Going Poxy Putty on them. Use silicone.
