I finally got my boat over 80 miles per hour (with a small block). The lakes look like they are going to freeze over in the next week or so. Its time to paint my hull nice.
My question is what should the underside of the boat look like. I have heard some local people say that it should be dull. They explained it as if you put two pieces of glass together with water between them, the glass is very hard to move and seperate. Sand one of the pieces of glass and the glass will move easily.
I guess it makes sense, but logic would think shiney and smooth would work better.
What are some of you guys doing with the bottoms of your boats?

Now how do you do that?
Racing FACT. Water flows better on water. A slightly rough surface will hold alittle water and slip over water faster. That would be why the term fast water and stickey water. Dead flat mirror smooth water would be stickey water, Real slight chop would be fast water.

Okay, Get the boat to stand on the transom then step back about 100 paces and open up with the 12 gauge.
Go over your running surface with a grinder with about 80 grit on the grinder, then speed-coat it.
Just spay some speed coat on the bottom.
I'm partial to shiny... Not that it makes it go fast but cuz it's bitchin looking..

When I did my bottom, I sprayed the primer a little dry on the wetted area. It came out dimpled. I didn't finish sand that area. Then sprayed the color. I figured it would last longer than speed coat. Plus I wasn't worried about the extra 1/10th of a second.
