The other versions you are thinking of are for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). I did some design work on it at both Northrop and Lockheed.
The F-22 Raptor is definitely an awesome aircraft.

ballet for fighters, now I've seen it all. cool find.
About 3 months ago we sold a boat to a man and wife, both retired USAF
and both currently working at Edwards AFB as civilians. She is about 4th or
5th person from the top in the development of the F22 Raptor. As a matter
of fact, she also has the most hours logged on the simulator. He's about the
same place in line of authority in the development of the global hawk drone.
Very interesting and fascinating listening to them talk about their projects.
While they didn't get too specific, they did let me know that these pieces
of hardware were way out front in the world.
Very cool stuff! More coming too they say.
Now that was pretty cool!
