Going on a mexican cruise on saturday for 8 days. My wife and I were not able to get our passports in time so we both have our drivers lisence and birth cert. According to the princess web site the birth cert. must have a raised seal... Neither one of ours does. Just says certified copy in a different color. Does anyone know if this is okay.. I called princess and the lady said it must have the raised seal, per the website, but said she was just going of what the website says. Been trying to get an answer from US customs for over 3 hours on the phone. Any help would be great as I feel like I am about to have a heart attack.
Has anyone had to travel with their birth cert. and if so did it just say certified copy and had no seal....
    THANK YOU

I went on a cruise 2 months ago with just my driver's lic. and birth certificate. My B.C. is my original one and had the seal, but honestly they did not even take a second look at it. I think I could have had someone else's birth certificate and it would not have made a difference.
Don't be mad at me if it does not work...just sharing my experience.

What cruise line? On Royal Caribbean's website they say they accept an original or certified copy.

mine doesn’t have the seal, just the red like yours and I have had no problem but that was with carnival cruise lines I think they are meaning it just needs to be an orginal not a copy

I went on a Carnival Mexican Rivera cruise. I had to get the one with the raised seal. I went to a place in Norwalk paid $15 bucks and they mailed it to me in a week.

I've got an original certified copy of my birth certificate from LA County with me and it states it is a true certified copy since it has the seal and is in purple ink. Now, granted that can be spoofed by anyone nowadays but it worked when I had to present it earlier today as proof of citizenship for my new work badge...That being said, realistically the cruise line can request whatever it deems reasonable for proof of citizenship.
Sounds like you need to go get it in person. If you were born in LA County (http://www.lavote.net/RECORDER/BDM_Records.cfm)
    In Person Request:
Same day service is only available for full copies of birth records that occurred from 1964 to the present. Copies that are requested in person for birth records occurring prior to 1964 are mailed within 15 working days. Those making in person requests will be required to sign the application under penalty of perjury in the presence of the cashier. If you are requesting a birth certificate for the purpose of obtaining a passport you must request an Authorized certified copy of the birth certificate. The Passport Agency will not accept a birth abstract or an Informational Copy for the purpose of issuing a passport. Orders for birth certificates can be made in person at the following locations:
    * A valid photo ID will be requested when a birth record is requested in-person.

Thanks for the help I just asked the lady at princess cruise lines about that and she said they require the raised seal as the colored ink was the older outdated ones.

Thanks for the info. The lancaster office is just down the street so I will have my wife go get hers there. I was born in San Bernardino county so I will head that way and try to get mine. Thanks for all the help.
