Make sure you have 12 volts across the two wires when you press the hatch button, it will switch polarity
when you move the button the other direction.
Not real mechanically inclined so i am not sure how this thing works but my problem is when i bought my 2002 ultra 21xs the hatch lift which is a black rod, i believe screw design wasnt attached to the bottom of the hatch. the pin was pulled and it was leaned against the back seat. my buddy and i put the pin back in, then hit the button to lift the hatch and it worked fine both opening and closing. the last time i took the boat home from the lake the lift wouldnt open the hatch so i pulled the pin and propped the hatch open to get a better look. the top of the lift which has the hole for the pin will turn but the rod wont come out of the lower assembly. any ideas on what i should look for when i pull the whole thing out of the engine bay?
