The boat I recently bought has a 454 bbc, it is leaking a ton of oil,(oil pan, valve cover, rear main seal) and there is water under the intake manifold. How important is it to have marine gaskets vs automotive? The current gaskets are automotive type.

I used the cork gaskets for my valve covers (auto zone), sealed it up with high temp (red) RTV and it has been good to go for the past 2 years.

Summit has a new line of Mr Gasket sets (very nice) that work well! we routinley use high quality Auto gaskets for this application Tom
