Thread: Anyone know what a MERCURY SWITCH does on an outboard?

    I have a early 80's black max 200 and the mercury switch has bad looking wires on it. I just want to know what the switch does befor I replace it. Thanks

    Where is the switch located .Ignition??

    It's bolted above the switch box

    4 posts with 2 large gauge wires? Starter solenoid.
    Smaller and to the rear of the starter solenoid? Voltage regulator.
    Try http://www.ishopmarine.com and go to their interactive parts lookup for Mercury.

    I figured it out, It keeps the motor from starting when the trim in up.
