Thread: Main bolt torque specs???????/

    I got my (455 olds)block and crank back and it turns like butter I dont think he was too happy with the fact that I had to take it back 3 times I will be plastiguaging tomorrow. He said he torqued the mains @95lbs Every book I have checked said 120lbs What do you guys think? I am starting to get worried

    The all knowing M*ndello's book shows 120 ft-lbs,
    using clean motor oil as a thread lubricant.
    They do have a note saying the if you use ARP Moly Assembly Lube that you should check with ARP.
    I used motor oil on the threads and retorqed to 120 ft-lbs when I pulled my main caps on the 455 to check things out. I haven't had any problems since.

    Looks like sleek beat me to it!
    I just looked in the Mondo book too. He says stock 455 mains are 120 lbs using eng. oil, But if you're using ARP moly assembly lube the value will be less. It doesn't say how much.

    BELIEVE what ARP says when you use the moly lube. The bolts will break way before 120 ft. lbs. Been there.
