Thread: How heavy is heavy?

I just found this forum and spent the last couple of days reading through old posts. I noticed a lot of people mentioned that they had heavy boats - but not a single one gave a weight. So, what is considered to be heavy as far as jet boats go??? I am just curious as to how far over the average mine is...

a lightweight boat is around 275-400lbs as for heavy it all depends on the size of your hull.I would guess that the avg jetboat(18-19ft)probably weighs around 650-900lbs(guessing)

Well, that confirms it. Mine is definitely a tanker! I need to weigh it, but I know it is definitely going to have another 0 at the end!
    Thanks,

A real lightweight comes in at 135lbs. If it didn't have paint on it, you could see through it. How's that for a scary thought. Ask Wideopen for a little more info on his hull.

Don't know about my hull, but a 454 with iron heads, tunnel ram, carbs, Bassett headers, aluminum engine mount plates, alternator and starter attached (no oil) is right at 750 lbs.

I think 750 is the weight of the BBC itself, not the motor and hull. I was under the impression a normal (not light layup) 18ft big block jet boat was closer to 2000lbs. My 21 Daytona with motor is probably around 3000. Maximus just hoisted his off the trailer, maybe he knows how much it weighs

Spectra, Howard, Schiada, Hondo etc..... were all heavyweights . Layups were usually 1" bottom 3/8 sides .Dashboard on spectra is 1/2 without wood reinforcement ! [some california boats, don't want to mention names wink had plywood reinforcements in dash and other stress locations] The 20.10 spectra's dry weight was listed at 2550 lbs.Minus ca 750 lbs for engine and accessories and 60 lbs for jetdrive and controls ,you'll have a rough idea .Some 19 eliminators, hulls only were about 300-400 lbs. Ps; 19 spectra jet is 1950lbs complete.
