It looks to me like a shift indicator light. The type you would normally see attached to the side of (or near) a tach in a car.
My guess is its used as a warning indicator for an engine vital. (Low oil pressure, high water temp, etc.)
O.K.Can't figure this one out.In the new ***boat mag,on the test of the DCB 28',there's a big round red thing on the dash by the gauges.Anyone know what it is?Pics on page 58.

DDog That is a warning light the I used for overheating, low oil presure and alike. The little lights on the gaffring gauges and buzzers are hard to see and hear.
O.K.Thought that might be it,just never seen one that big used before.Your right,the warning lights on the gauges can be hard to see,especially in bright daylight.Are you using an audio alarm in the warning system also?
