KISS YOUR MILEAGE GOOD-BYE IF YOU EVEN DO A MILD LIFT/TIRE COMBO....GET THE DIESEL. NOW THAT I HAVE ONE, I DONT THINK ID EVER GET ANOTHER TOW VEHICLE WITHOUT ONE. I GET ABOUT 12-13 SITTING ON 38" TIRES WITH FACTORY GEARING. YOU WILL DO ALOT LESS WITH THAT V-10....ROB

    Underpowered.
We have 4 of them at work, full utility beds on extended cab chassis, none of the crews like them. On several occasions they got down in a ditch and the transmission stalled, the truck would just go "blaaahhhh" and not go anywhere. Had to be pulled and pushed into the job site that the older Fords (460s, not the greatest 460 either) easily drove to.
    Get a Powerstroke.

Well it's been already bought...got it from an engineer here at work that just has to have a BMW..
a few more facts 5spd.std. manual 4x4 and hubs, 1 ton springs and factory lift , 4:30 gears XLT package ,Borla SS headers and exhaust,K&N Filter, and performance chip...1999 model w/ 100,000 miles ,loaded to the hilt ,leather etc...
I gave $ 12,000 for it...have yet to pull anything with it but I do know it will take off in 3rd.gear easily and turns 2500rpm @ 70mph seems plenty stout enough...looking for Mechanical troubles
    Thanks

The thing to watch with those V-10's, as they are really to inline 5 cylinder motors mated together, are the balance shafts and the drive belts/chains that run them. I know Ford and Dodge went different methods, one built them into the block and one put them under the vavle covers, but I don't recall who did which. I'm thinking Ford put them under the valve covers. That's about all I know about them, other than the usual problems with any big truck.

Mechanically we don't have any problems with the trucks, and they get used pretty hard (utility work). I think 3 out of the 4 have over 100,000 miles on them, and all are 2000 models, with no major problems.
Ours are automatics, but I would think the standard would be easily as reliable.

Are all the diesel guys making ya wish you hadn't bought it yet? I have a 2001 V-10 F350 crew cab 4x4 and love it! I put a k&n filter and flow master cat back exhaust on it for the hell of it. I'm no longer into lifted trucks, so this one is facory height with 285/75 16 BFGs and in 37,000 mile it's never been in the shop. Milage? yeah it kinda sucks, then again 87 octane gas is cheaper the diesel right now. If I needed to pull 10,000 lbs I might buy a diesel, then again maybe not, I worked in diesel garages as a kid and can't stand the smell of the stuff. for the record I tow my boat at 75 mph getting 10mpg, without the boat I get 12.5-13 running 80. I just brought home a load of sand last week for landscaping, first time I've got it down onto the over loads, of course the scales recorded 2900#, and from a hp standpoint you didn't even feel it. Good luck with yours, I love mine.

HAD a 98 powerstroke F250 crew 4X4, traded it for a 2000 crew V10 4X4......WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE! sorry Xtrem22(fellow DCB owner) this was the worst truck Ive ever owned (and there has been many) id be OK with the 8MPG if it had ANY power to speak of, BUT it was a complete DOG! So to sum a V10 up.....crappy power, even worse fuel ecom, and you get the plessure of a ruff riding TANK. Oh wait, they are fricking expense to purchase as well. Only get the New Diesel! its the ONLY choice to make.....

$12,000 sounds like a pretty good deal. Put a Kenne Bell supercharger on there and you won't have to worry about power. A buddy of mine has a 2000 with that package, and it lights up 35s like a dragster!
