Im surprised the navy had the restraint to only use small arms on them. Im not sure i would have after having been fired on with an RPG.

Somalia has been without a functioning central government since 1991, when Siad Barre's regime was toppled. Warlords have carved the country into a series of personal fiefdoms, making travel impossible without an armed escort.
The country is experiencing its worst drought in more than 40 years, but the Red Cross says it has only managed to raise 10 per cent of its £11m target for 2006. All now pin their hopes on rains due next month.
Donors are failing to respond to the unfolding humanitarian disaster in Somalia, where more than 1.5 million people are on the brink of starvation, according to aid agencies operating in the region.
I bet most folks care about this [ ] much.

It is entirely possible the "small arms fire" included .30 and .50 cal belt-fed machine guns. F'n RPG definitely deserves a "shoot first, frisk the corpses later" policy. :skull: Good job USN.
Somalia is definitely among the worst of the high-seas piracy trouble spots today.

Been there done that. We were based out of Mombossa Kenya and the locals would say kill a Somali for me. You try to feed the people and the shoot at you.
I say let figure out themselves. Way too much politics in so called humanitarian missions.

It's just a sad situation over there. Anyone see Hotel Rwanda? I loved it. It was very sad, but beautifully done.

It is hard to have much emphasy for a nation run by bands of cutthroats. There are times when it is best to let nature take its course. Many of the African nations have run off the whites who made a sustainable society in those countries and now they have fallen into anarchy. And all the people here can think about is instant results from any attempts at changing the world. So be it, let them wipe theirselves out and thn we will have to deal with the hard core remains.
