We have strange ppl around here..they use to take these molds of faces and put them around the young pumpkin..it would then take the shape of the mold

The mold would be secured over a nascent pumpkin with the stem feeding
into the bottom and the vine continuing out the top. As it grew,
it assumed the form of the 'pumpkin head'.
