I just got a new printer. When trying to install the software, I get to the point where it tells me to connect the USB cable then it will find the device. It never finds it. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it 5 times. Can anyone help me? I have soooo many river pics I want to send but can't till I get this resolved. You won't be sorry.cry

What operating software are you using?
You typically plug in the printer USB cable and the computer sees new hardware and recognizes it. Should be (well, hopefully) plug-and-play.
Is the printer plugged into an electric outlet?
Have you installed the software that comes with the printer before trying to let windows do the work for you?
I have windows 98, yes the printer is plugged in, I have used the software that came with the printer. It is a Lexmark x83.
OK, uninstall everything you did and make sure the printer is not attached to your machine then re-boot. Take the install CD that came with your machine and run the setup program from it. Eventually it will finish and either ask you to attach your printer or restart and attach it. You should be golden after that. If not I may be able to walk you through it over the phone (at one point that was my business).

First thing to do is to go to control panel and then the device manager. Look and make sure that the USB root hub is installed and that there is no exclamation points by any usb devices.
