Sorry if this is a subject that has already been discussed but I really need the correct answer. My 14 year old daughter who is a pretty good swimmer asked me tonight how old she had to be before she could stop wearing her lifevest, I told her 16 but I'm not really sure. What is the legal age that a lifevest doesn't have to be worn?
Thanks!!!

California Law is 11 years old and younger must wear a vest while the boat is in operation. So, once she's 12, she's good to go. I have an 11 year old daughter of my own...
I thought it was 13 and good to go. My daughter turns 13 in 2 weeks.
LiLMissHB is 13

Arizona Law is 12 and under must wear PFDs when the boat is underway. (Yes, just floating or drifting without the engine on is underway!)
We figure that once they become teenagers and know everything anyway, they can take them off.
