Is it blowing fuses when your trailer is hooked up? If it is, you have a wire somewhere on your trailer that is grounding out against the trailer. You will need to find the worn wire insalation and tape it up where it is rubbing on the trailer.
new duramax hd keeps blowing fuses for the brake lights. messed up our 4th of july plans. had it to the dealer monday, tuesday and back again today. had brake lights yesterday and this morning, another blown fuse! anyone have any info???

it is blowing whether or not the trailer is there. we discovered this after starting to rewire the entire trailer (who'd a thunk a brand new truck would have a short in it?). cry
Our 2500HD had the same problem.
We tracked the problem to when we launched the boat and the trailer was submerged.
The cure: disconnect the trailer wireing when backing in the boat trailer.
If you have surge brakes: the trailer mfgs make a small lock out key for the surge brakes to allow you to disconnect the electrical when backing in.
Free advise is worth what ya paid for it.
my truck did the same thing but i could not find the blown fuse so i took it in thinking it would be a warranty thing but no go and so it cost me $41.95 for 2 fuses and 1/2 hour labor .the damn fuses were 2.20 a piece. oh well live and learn
well, they gave us a rental car yesterday so hopefully they will find out what the problem is. cant afford not to have brake lights. i will let you know what they find out. wink
I have seen the main wire harnes for the rear lights caught between the frame and the bed. They need to check the wires along the frame rail good the most common area where shorts occur on new trucks Hope this helps.
Sorry, I have no solution.
But I do have to chime in and say Chevy's electrical work has always been and will always be crap.
I guess I do have a solution. Trade that thing in on a Dodge.
Thanks

STU--
traded the dodge in on the duramax!
they found the problem. the brake light wore was being pinched by the emergency brake cable somehow and wore the casing off so every time you put the emergency brake on with your foot also on the brake pedal, popped the fuse.
i hope that did the trick! thanks for all the input.
