Thread: Conversion ... Jet To Arneson... Anyone ever try?

All this talk of conversions got me thinking about the surface drive thing, I would think that with the amount of HP our jets run that a surface drive would give you some serious speed. Any one ever try this and what were the results on this ? I know it seems kind of stupid to think this but as we all know a boat is a hole in the water in to wich we all throw our money, why not throw some more into it.
Would this kind of set up be a recipe for disaster in the handling department with the shape of a jet hull or what? would it flat out hual ass or what?
    Any help here.

I,ve rode in a blown 21' with an arneson drive and all I can say is DON'T DO IT!!!!! If your ever thinking about towing a skier or a tuber these things slip big time out of the hole and have 0 acceleration below 20mph or so. 2nd having a surface prop a few feet behind the boat on a shaft is damn deadly to anything behind the boat. It's your buck but think about all the aspects before you attempt this.
Good luck......Oh yeah they do throw a good roost

You might try that number again using (650) for the area code cause it was changed about 5 years ago (or longer). As far as I know that guy is still in biz.
I know Arneson brings his boat to the Cow Palace boat show every year (in San Francisco) and is more than happy to talk with anyone and answer questions.
Oh Yeah, Arneson drives don't seem to back very well or manuver at low speeds
