Thread: Need a 10,000 GVWR trailer for DMV test

I've been trying to get my commercial drivers license so I can pull my 5th wheel and boat at the same time, the DMV has not been making it easy. I've passed all the written test and physical and now I'm scheduled to take the driving test but my 5th wheel only has a GVWR of 8,000 and it has to be 10,000 or more for the test. Is there anyone in my area (Ventura county or western S.F. valley) that has 5th wheel or even a regular trailer, with this rating, that I could rent for about 4 hours Saturday morning so I can get this over with. There is a sticker somewhere near the front of most trailers with GVWR info.
    Thanks in advance, Tom

Tom, I don't know if it''s still an option or what you are trying to get but CA had a "Non-commercial class A" when I was doing all my licensing crap. That was the one for trailers above 10k GVWR yet not used for commercial purposes. I'm not sure if the endorsements for doubles was available for that one though and you'd have to have it to pull both at the same time. The double/triple test is only on paper once you have a class A.
If all you want is a 10k trailer I'd check with friends who are into ranching. A rancher will almost always have a trailer rated that high or know where one is that you could grab for an hour or 3.
Have fun dragging both, it can make for an interesting day. When you get really good and impatient you can launch the boat all hooked up with the 5th wheel.

Oh yeah, and both trailers have to be 28' or less if your going to do that. I know people who drag their boats behind 40' 5th wheels and get away with it. I just wanted to let you know to have a really stupid look on your face when or if you get told that.

I was originally told I could use a non commercial A so I got that. It comes down to the doubles endorsement and for that you need your commercial A. Thanks

Tom I looked at my horse trailer( actually it's my daughters') but it's under 10K. If you haven't found one call me. I have a couple of friends with gooseneck trailers that might fit what you need

If you want to drive up I will let you use the Peterbilt and lowbed or a set of grain trailers.

    9, 10, 13, 15, 18 or twin sticks?
Or you can really confuse the poor guy and send him out with one of the old double over 9's with the "around the block" pattern.
